The palace is said to have been built during the reign of Ravi Varma Kulasekara Perumal in the early 17th century. The Padmanabhapuram Palace, the headquarters of the Travancore dynasty, is a contemporary witness to Kerala architecture. The palace consists of the main parts of the Mother Palace, the Magic Road, the Theater Road, the Upstairs House and the South Palace. The windows, doors and pillars with teak carvings will amaze you if you turn in any direction of the mansion.

          The entrance building of the palace is called Bhumukam according to Kerala tradition. The main entrance has a double emerald door with woodwork and an ebony support. 90 types of lotuses are carved on this door. There is a traditional Kerala hanging lamp on the ground.

It was rebuilt in the 18th century by King Marthanda Varma of Travancore.Covering an area of 90 acres (36 hectares), the fort has a 200 feet (79 m) high hill. Inside there is a casting furnace for casting guns.The fort is located at Puliyurkurichi on the Thiruvananthapuram - Nagercoil National Highway. The fort is built of massive black stones surrounded by a separate hill. Udayagiri Fort is currently under the control of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. Here some deer are kept in a small fenced area called the Biodiversity Park. Also lovebirds and guinea pigs are kept in cages. Guinea fowls roam spontaneously. There are some types of fish in the fish scene. There is also a separate charge for walking on the Burma Bridge and climbing a wooden hut.Only family members, solo men and solo pendulums are allowed in the park. Men and women who come as lovers or friends are denied entry here.
