Dindigul is one of the towns with a causal name. The name 'Dindigul' can be deduced from the fact that there was a large hill like Dindigul in the middle of the town. Before this the name was Tindeswaram. This is the mythical name. When the king of Tindi ruled the city, he persecuted the people. People repented for Isan. Some say that the town was named Tindeeswaram because of the destruction of Tindi by Lord Shiva Easwaran.Dindigul is a combination of the two words 'Dindu' and 'Kal' as a hill fort like 'pillow' and the entire fort is made of stone. It is said that the name came from the bare hills facing the city..

The Nayaka king Muthu Krishnappa Nayaka, who ruled Madurai within the 17th century (1605), built a fort around the temple and built a fort on the Hill, hence the name Fort. The temple is specially designed so the first - morning sunlight falls directly on the idol of the sanctum sanctorum. In 1788 AD, the British recaptured the fort and used it as a military base to suppress the settlers of Dindigul. Gopal Nayak, who was the leader of the settlers, and his accomplices Somanthurai, Periyapatti, Nagamanayak, Tumachi Nayak, and Somanatha Sarvai were arrested by the nation on May 4, 1801, and hanged on November 5. To counter the settlers, the cannon mound erected within the middle of the fort still stands today. The armory and logistics rooms built by country are located within the middle of the fort. Dindigul Fort has met many English rulers. As you climb the steps, you'll see long white lines that are one foot wide. This is often an indication of loading goods on a cart with large wheels. The location is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Visitors are allowed to go to and it'd be nice if travelers could avoid harming the fort considering the history and specialty of this place.
